If you have small children around, or pets, or if you have people over for parties, you may have had close calls with candles - or you may be afraid to use regular candles for fear that they'd get tipped over, that wax would melt somewhere, or that someone could get burned. All of these are potential hazards of candles with open flames, especially with increased activity. There are a variety of types of flameless candles - even flameless candles with timer so that you can light them when you go to bed and have a gentle ambience as you go to sleep, knwoing that they won't stay on all night long.
Many flameless candles just provide the light of a candle, but some are scented as well. The technology has gotten a lot better - it's not just a static light - so they really can provide a nice mood as long as someone doesn't look too carefully at the candle itself.
If you have someone in the family with allergies or asthma, flameless candles can be a good option too. Not only do regular candles produce smoke, but many candles have chemicals that are released when they burn that can aggravate certain conditions.
