The handles do stay cool, and with the three sizes they're versatile enough to handle any normal family cooking needs. They did smell funny the first time I used them, but that's not unusual - I have yet to find any cookware that doesn't have a slight smell the first time. Every time since then there was no odor at all. And they are pretty non-stick. Most things I cooked I didn't add any oil or butter, unless I wanted to for flavor. They washed clean right away too. I'm pretty happy with them - especially since they're a lot less expensive than some other options!
